Good Intentions

I've been meaning to write a blog about how the new year has been going but school is oh so busy! But it is a ton of fun. From Six Flags, to Super Hero Bowling, to hanging out with friends old and new, I'm definitely loving this year.

I'll write more later!

In the meantime, I'd love to get some questions from you all! Maybe about life at Loma, about the San Diego area, or even prayer requests! So drop a comment down below or you can even send me an email or find me on Facebook (those are probably faster ways of getting a hold of me)!

Okay. Bye. I love you all!

That is all.

Some Really Good News

If I may share a joy in my life, I will proceed. Since I hear no objections, here it is.

Last week, Thursday to be exact, I found out that I was selected to be one of the worship interns here at Point Loma! Basically what that means is that I am blessed to be able to lead worship every once in a while during Point Loma's chapels and do a bunch of behind the scenes stuff. Chapel, for those who don't know, meets here at Point Loma 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) in the mornings (9:45AM) and once a week for a service called Time Out on Wednesday nights. I have some great experiences in the chapel services here and I'm glad I get to be a part again.

I said "again" and you might not know why, but if you've followed my story the last few years, you'd know that I got to lead worship on campus as a freshman with the New Student band. My excitement last week was much like my excitement freshman year. I wrote a blog about that day I found out freshman year which you can find here.

One of the coolest parts about me getting this opportunity to lead worship in chapel is the way I found out. Right when I got the email last week, I was standing in the Caf almost exactly where I was standing freshman year when I found out I'd be in the freshman band. It was so bizarre and I started to tear up with joy and relief.

I am beyond excited for what this year has in store and I know that God is going to do some great things on this campus, in my life, and the lives of those around me! We (myself, the other interns, and the worship director) had our first meeting tonight and it made me all the more excited. I can tell this is going to push me to grow as a worship leader, as a person, and more importantly, to grow as a Christian by being sharpened by other believers who do the same thing I do. To strive towards the same goal of glorifying God through music with others is something I've been desiring for a long time. And here's the opportunity.

This is an amazing blessing and gift that God has blessed me with for this year and I intend on doing everything in my ability to make it known that He is the only reason I stand, He is why I sing, He is why I have life.

Be encouraged today, friends, and know that God is a God who does far more than all we ask or imagine according to His power at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).

That is all.

An Introduction

Well hello there lovely friends (if anyone still keeps up with this blog)! Or maybe you're new to this blog and you don't know who I am. If that's the case, allow me to introduce myself. Wait, am I already telling you what to do? I've only just met you and I'm telling you to allow me to do something. How rude of me. Well how about this; I will now introduce myself if that's agreeable to you.

Hello. My name is Orin Joshua Mozon. I am a follower and lover of Jesus. I am a third year student at Point Loma Nazarene University. Through Point Loma, I am a 'Loma Blogger." What that means is simply that they promote me to write about my life on this page here. It's a fun little thing I've been doing for the past two years here and I enjoy it. I enjoy it most when people leave comments, send messages, etc. I've actually made a couple really great friends through this blog, one of which I stay in long distance contact now and am really blessed by her friendship and other who actually attends the school! Maybe you could be next. Don't be afraid to say hello by dropping a comment here or messaging me through a different one of my social media accounts. Feel free to follow me on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram (@orindiculous), or add me as a friend on Facebook. My life is an open book for anyone who wants to read!

I have thoughts. Sometimes I have feelings. In this blog, I will write about those things. Mostly my thoughts. Sometimes my feelings. Usually I write about events that I participate in, things I see around campus, experiences I have relating to my life on campus, and sometimes random things I want to say. Either way, I hope this will be another fun experience for us all!

Also, I'd love to pray for any of you who read this so please, let me know if anything is going on in your life that you would like me to pray for!

"May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." (2 Peter 1:2)

God bless you guys!

That is all.

A Little Story About My Summer

Can I talk about how adorable (and strange) kids are for a second?

Okay cool. So I’m helping out at my church’s Kid’s Camp this week. We do sports, songs, arts & crafts, and a bunch of other great stuff and have a blast. It’s always one of, if not the, best weeks of the summer for the past 6 years. It’s cool to be a part of these kid’s lives for a week and all but sometimes, they say the oddest things!

Today, as we were on the soccer field, one of the kids in my group turned to me all serious and he said with a smile on his face, “I have my own sexy dance.”

And in my head I was like WHAT?! What does that even mean? First of all, why do you even know what a sexy dance is?! And second, why and how do you have your OWN? It’s great if kids have their own little dance moves because you can express yourself in some way I guess but why in the world do you have your own SEXY DANCE?! And how did you determine what is or isn’t sexy? YOU’RE NINE YEARS OLD.

I almost wanted to just humor him and see what he would do but I was seriously afraid of what could happen so all I could say was, “Oh. That’s nice. Don’t show me though. You should keep that to yourself.”

Seriously… Kids are great. But sometimes they make me wonder what in the world goes on in their heads.

That is all

Faith to be Made Well

A little post to say that I'm not dead. I was reading Acts this morning and was inspired to write a little and thought I'd share it here just in case someone checks this blog over summer :)

“And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well…” (Acts 14:9)

This stuck out to me this morning. As I’m reading this chapter, I’m amazed by how God worked through Paul and the disciples in the early church. Paul saw something in this man that had been crippled from birth because the Holy Spirit gave him the ability to notice what was happening in the invisible, spiritual realm. Paul saw faith.

Faith, being sure of what one hopes for and certain of what one does not see, Paul saw this as he gazed into this man’s eyes. He was able to merely look at someone and realize that this man who was a cripple had faith in the impossible and believed that he could walk for the first time. But the thing is, Paul didn’t just glance at the cripple as he walked on by, he looked intently at him.

That speaks volumes to me. I know I often ask the Lord to give me His eyes for people and His heart for the needs around me, but as I read this I have to ask myself, how often do I really look intently at people? Do I actually stop and take the time to observe what someone may be going through or do I think that just smiling at someone is enough?

This phrase of “looking intently” appears some other places in the Bible and the context usually when it appears elsewhere is when a crowd is truly focused, looking intently, having their eyes fixed on something, and not being distracted by what’s going on around them or looking away. This is how Paul looked at this man who hadn’t ever walked. Paul stopped what he was doing and observed the man’s faith and in the the next verse (Acts 4:10), Paul told this man to walk. This process is reminiscent of Jesus’ ministry when He walked the earth because in Scripture there are many accounts where Jesus would look at people with compassion, heal them, and tell them, “Your faith has made you well.”

So friends, I encourage you, look at people. In the same way that Paul did here, and in the same way that Jesus looks intently at you and heals you, give people more than just a glance, a nod, and a smile. Give them your time. Look at them. Maybe you’ll see something in them and be able to call out the potential that they have. Maybe a miracle can happen.

And in the same way that you look at people intently, look intently at Jesus even more. Hebrews 12:2 says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith…” Fix your eyes on Him because He is the one writing your story and He is the One perfecting it. Don’t lose sight of the One who gave it all for you.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
That is all .

Sophomore Year

Sorry it's been so long since I've written on here. The last couple weeks have been crazy, but right now I can say that I am done with my second year of undergraduate education! It's been a wonderful year full of God's blessings and guidance and provision. I have met some of the greatest people I've known in my lifetime and am glad to be able to call many of them my friends - even being able to call them my family.

This year, I've been more and more falling in love with the body of Christ. By that I mean the Church - my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The body, the Church, is not perfect but it's a beautiful mess. The Church couldn't be perfect because the Church is full of people and people just aren't perfect. But it's such a beautiful thing when Christians can share life together and get to know each other and get to know their Savior together and walk through life with Him and encouraging one another along the way.

It's crazy to see how far I've come in the past 8 months at Point Loma but I've been seeing that every semester, I go in as one person, and come out a different one. In a good way though. As much as we don't like to say it, change is good. And pain is good. Because change can hurt, but it leads to growth and growth is good. People have and will always let me down, but when you put your trust in Jesus, you see that even though people let you down, He will never let you down. And I'm able to push through disappointment, unfulfilled expectations, and problems with other people only because of Him.

God is so good and I'm so glad that I'm at Point Loma Nazarene University. It's not a perfect institution and it's unrealistic to think any college or university is, but it's the one for me in this season of my life. I'm so excited for next semester and God wants to do in my life, my friends life, and in the life of everyone on campus' life.

I see a near revival stirring as we pray and seek. I'm on my knees alongside many others as we seek the face of God and pursue intimacy with Christ at Point Loma. All glory be to God.

That is all.

It's Been A Month

What has happened in this last month?

It would be impossible to describe all the amazing things that have been going on in the last month. But I can try to give you a glimpse.

Within the last month, my roommate got married. It was a really great ceremony and it was super cool. I got the fortune of standing beside him as one of his groomsmen (I liked to call myself the groommate). This all occurred during Spring Break. It was interesting the timing of everything because if you have been following my journey at Point Loma at all, you would know that last Spring Break, a bunch of my friends road tripped up to the Bay Area/San Francisco to hang out and just have fun. Well this year, we (most of the group was the same but with a couple people not able to go and a couple new friends) did the same trip again. But everything was different. It wasn't just to go hang out and lounge around (although that did happen). This time, we road tripped to see our friend, my roommate, get married and begin the next stage of his life. While he is now married and his wife is still in Northern California, he continues to be my roommate for the rest of the semester, which is nice :) I'm glad he didn't leave me alone. But it's sad also because he had to finish this semester of school before he could be with her. It's an interesting dynamic.

It's crazy that I'm at the age where people around me are going to start dropping like flies (by that, I mean getting married). It's that time in life I guess. And it's crazy. But it's real. The craziest thing for me to think about is that some people my age have been in relationships for the last couple years and are moving to the next stage of marriage while I'm over here still single, and loving my life with Jesus. I guess I just don't get it! Love between people is great but compared to the love that Jesus has for me... It's nothing. So right now, that's where I stand on relationships. Haha.

I was going to go on and share more about the last month but actually, I don't really know what else to write about because there's not much else new that's going on. I'm going to school, leading worship at church back home, making new friends, hanging out with old friends, looking for a new roommate next year :(, following Jesus, learning new things, the good stuff.

For now.

That is all.
